SCENIC DRIVE - SAN LUIS OBISPO TO MONTEREY (Pacific Coast Highway)

For years, I have heard what a beautiful drive the Pacific Coast Highway is between San Luis Obispo and Monterey.   California definitely delivered today. It is positively the most amazing scenery I have ever experienced!

One of the many highlights of the PCH is the Bixby Creek Bridge, a reinforced concrete open-spandrel arch bridge, between Big Sur and Carmel.

The surf at this beach is so powerful, they discourage people from swimming there.

Wow, this is just so beautiful!

This is, by far, the best part of the drive. These are elephant seals and I was told that this spot is the best and closest in the U.S. for viewing. There were hundreds of them, just basking in the warm sunshine. Look at this big fatty!! (He probably said the same thing about me!)

They are soooo cute!

There is one yakking in every crowd!!

Does life get any better?

The brown one was trying to wake up the gray one to play with him!

Again, nobody is dead - they are just resting!

This one went for a swim. He quickly got out of that cold water!

This is the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse.

Look at this photo. On the right, doesn't that white rock sticking out look like a loggerhead turtle's head? Eye socket and mouth open.

Lots of birds and wildlife along the way. The seagulls are almost tame. They do not fear humans at all.

This guy was very curious about me. You can almost pat them on the head they are so tame.

These squirrely varmints were out in full force. They are tame too and will jump in your car if you don't keep the doors closed.

I know, I know, you're not supposed to feed wild animals.  But, they were so cute and looked so hungry!  I couldn't help but share my lunch with them.

And last, but not least, the flowers along the Coast just as pretty as the shoreline!

Like the big, fat seals -- I, too, am enjoying life on the Pacific Coast!
