This foggy morning started out with a visit to the Mt. Soledad Cross that sits atop a hill in La Jolla, California. The cross has been involved in a legal fight since 1989; opponents of it saying it is illegal to display a religious symbol on public land. The cross had been ordered removed several times; however, in July of 2008, a judge ruled it could stay. The memorial itself is dedicated to all the men and women who served their country in times of war. It is a beautiful monument.
After leaving La Jolla, I headed up the scenic Pacific Coast Highway to Los Angeles for a couple days. My first stop in L.A. was the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where a lot of celebrities are buried. Besides the graves, there are beautiful birds and flowers all around. It's very pretty there.
This was a very large swan guarding the grave of Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Jr. (who have some really nice digs in the cemetery).
This goose let me know quite firmly that I was getting too close to her babies!
This was a very interesting grave. Neither of the people it's for are deceased. There was a petrified wood cross inset on the marble slab, and a petrifed wood stump at the head of the grave. It was so unique.
This is the grave of Dee Dee Ramone, one of the original members of what I consider the first and only "real" punk band.
